African flat Binga basket
Availability: in stock
These intricate flat baskets are ethically sourced in the Binga district of Zimbabwe.
Artisans hand weave the baskets using natural, locally harvested materials and traditional techniques.
The natural Binga baskets are perfect for adding texture to your living space, and look great hung on the wall.
Traditionally these baskets were used for wind 'winnowing', an ancient agricultural method for separating grains. Wind winnowing involves throwing the harvest into the air so that the wind blows away the lighter husks and hulls, while the heavier grains are caught in the basket.
Available in three sizes:
small: 35cm diameter
medium: 40cm diameter
large: 45cm diameter
Please note due to the handmade nature of these pieces, there may be a slight variation in pattern as to what is pictured.
